International Alumni Testimonial : An enriching experience between Kenya and France

On this page :

Interview with Stacey Wathira, an international alumna from Kenya, reflecting on her experience at CESI and her academic journey.

Background and Choice of CESI

Can you introduce yourself and tell us about your background?
My name is Stacey Wathira and I am from Nairobi, Kenya. I studied at Strathmore University, where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Information Technology, specializing in software engineering and development.

Why did you choose CESI?

I had the opportunity to take part in an exchange program through my university and was selected to study at CESI in 2024. It was a great honor and a highly enriching experience. I learned a great deal, both through the academic content and the international environment offered by CESI.

How was your arrival in France? What challenges did you face?
My arrival was a bit challenging, as I received my visa on the day of departure and I hadn’t secured accommodation yet. However, once I arrived at CESI, everything went smoothly. I quickly met other students and benefited from a welcoming and supportive environment.

The main challenge was adapting to the culture and especially the climate, as I arrived just before winter, which was a completely new experience for me.

Academic Experience and Skills Development

How would you describe your experience at CESI? What did you learn?
I would describe my experience as fascinating, in one of the most remarkable cities I have visited, within a highly stimulating learning environment.

I developed strong teamwork skills, as well as the ability to work independently and conduct research. CESI’s hands-on teaching approach allowed me to apply these skills in practice.

One of my most memorable experiences was visiting the robotics laboratory, where I discovered a robot programmed by students. It was my first time seeing such a project in action.

Career Impact and Insights

What helped you succeed, and how has this experience impacted your career?
The support from fellow exchange students, classmates, and professors was essential. CESI provides a very encouraging and supportive environment.

Today, I work as a back-end engineer in a financial company, where I develop financial systems. My experience at CESI had a direct impact on my career: I learned Python during my exchange, which enabled me to develop an application now used within my company, particularly for encryption systems.

What are you most proud of, and what advice would you give to future students?
I am very proud to have had this international experience, which continues to shape my professional future.

I would strongly encourage students to take this opportunity. The teaching at CESI is highly practical, you don’t just learn, you apply. There is also strong support, and you never feel far from home.

It was an incredible opportunity, both academically and personally. My experience at CESI allowed me to develop new skills, meet inspiring people, and open myself to new perspectives.
