As part of the recently signed partnership between the Hauts-de-France Region and the State of Maryland (United States), an academic and institutional delegation, including Jean-Marc Ogier, Director General of CESI, Claude Lesur, Director of the Lille campus, and Thierry Duval, Head of International Relations for the West Region, traveled to the United States for a series of strategic meetings combining diplomacy, training, research, and economic development.
This visit took place in a highly symbolic context, marked by celebrations of 250 years of U.S. independence, giving rise to numerous exchanges between American territories and international partners.
A Mission at the Intersection of Education, Science, and the Economy
During this mission, the delegation participated in a particularly rich official program. Notably, it was received at the French Embassy in the United States, where a conference highlighted the scientific and academic challenges of Franco-American cooperation.
Discussions continued with community colleges and high school administrators in Maryland, opening up new prospects for mobility, training pathways, and the development of international programs.
From an economic perspective, the delegation met with the World Trade Center of Maryland and several local companies. These meetings explored opportunities for collaboration in innovation, technology, and engineering, in line with regional needs and industrial priorities.
A key highlight of the mission was a meeting with the Governor of Maryland and various official delegations, confirming the shared commitment to giving this partnership a concrete and sustainable dimension.
A Structuring Political, Institutional, and Academic Partnership
The mission was attended by representatives of the Hauts-de-France Region, including the Vice President for International Affairs, the Regional Councillor for International Affairs, and the Director of International Relations for the Hauts-de-France Region. Their participation underscores the political importance attached to this transatlantic partnership, which is intended to enhance the attractiveness of the region and its higher education institutions.
The mission to Maryland also further strengthened ties with the local academic community, particularly in the areas of STEM and engineering education. Discussions were held with engineering schools and universities to identify opportunities for cooperation, including joint programs, international mobility, academic projects, and, ultimately, joint degrees.
CESI is fully committed to this international development strategy, aimed at enhancing the quality of its training programs and ensuring global recognition of its skills and expertise.
A Sustainable Dynamic to Promote
For the Hauts-de-France Region and the institutions involved, this mission to Maryland marks an important step in the development of international relations. It paves the way for future concrete initiatives involving targeted educational and scientific cooperation, as well as the implementation and promotion of joint projects with French and American partners.
This transatlantic dynamic illustrates the determination of Hauts-de-France and CESI to position themselves as fully engaged stakeholders in addressing the major international challenges of education, research, and innovation.
