Rose Beneteau, a civil engineering apprentice, was selected this year to join the Notre Europe Academy, a programme led by the Jacques Delors Institute that aims to raise young people’s awareness of the key challenges facing Europe. This enriching experience complements her engineering studies while strengthening her civic engagement and expanding her interest in European issues.
An unconventional journey : between technical expertise and global awareness
After completing a DUT in Civil Engineering in La Rochelle, Rose joined CESI as part of a work-study programme. At the same time, her participation in the Notre Europe Academy enabled her to develop a broader vision of Europe and its role in today’s major challenges.
Beyond construction sites and structural calculations, she is now engaging with broader European questions she had not explored before, such as the continent’s economic and defence policies.
A training programme to understand Europe and its challenges

Selected to take part in this unique initiative, Rose committed to a series of monthly conferences and workshops, each focused on a major topic such as defence, migration, or economic transition. Each session blends expert talks with practical workshops, offering participants the opportunity to deepen their understanding of European affairs.
Each workshop is an opportunity to engage with complex topics and exchange views with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
says Rose, who especially values the richness of the discussions and the diversity of participants.
Powerful sessions and a growing civic commitment
As the sessions progressed, certain themes left a deep impression on her. The subject of migration, in particular, confronted her with the human tragedies taking place at Europe’s borders. This concrete exposure to societal challenges has strengthened her desire to get involved and to better understand how political decisions affect people’s lives.
An experience for the future
Thanks to this complementary training, Rose is enhancing her professional skills while developing a strong sense of civic responsibility. She continues to attend the monthly sessions with enthusiasm, convinced that this deepened understanding of Europe will benefit her future, whether or not she chooses a path in the public sector.
